Jefferson County commissioners on Tuesday voted to approve a rezoning of a parcel of 2 acres of land to allow for 10 homes, a project that neighbors at one time vehemently opposed.

The issue over the land at 3695 S. Harlan St. seemed much less heated Tuesday as the presentation was met with little fanfare.

Six months ago, property owner about tall houses and construction inconvenience for the parcel that once contained an old farmhouse and barn.

Residents of a nearby neighborhood circulated a petition in August 2014 to oppose the development. Those residents live in Denver and some also said, at the time, they were not made aware of meetings regarding the property.

Jensen said he was able to quell the situation by communicating his intentions that there would not be 35-foot houses on the land. The plan is for 10 ranch-style homes.

One resident did speak to the commissioners lamenting the loss of trees behind her home.

The commissioners applauded Jensen for his communication efforts with the community. Jensen said he would continue to keep neighbors in the loop through the process.

“We’ll work with them all the way through, this is the first step,” Jensen said. “I think it’ll go pretty smoothly from here.”
