Columbian Elementary School was placed on lockout Thursday morning after Denver police received reports that shots had been fired nearby.

The school is located on the 2400 block of 40th Avenue. The lockout began at about 8:30 a.m, Denver Public Schools said.

The lockout was released at about 9 a.m.

Police said officers are in the area investigating the reports.

A lockout means a school’s exterior doors are locked and no one is allowed in or out, according to a Denver Public Schools spokesman. Classes continued per normal schedule.
