cultural exhibit “El Movimiento” explores Colorado Chicano activism
opens saturday Despite its national influence, the Colorado Chicano Movement of the 1960s and ’70s is often overlooked in social histories of those decades. A new, 1,100-square-foot exhibit at History Colorado is hoping to reverse that with the art, images and voices of the activists who fought to end discrimination, secure rights and empower workers. Created with the help of advisers from across the state, “El Movimiento” looks at labor rights, Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales’ Crusade for Justice, student activism during the Vietnam War and more. The event, which is presented in conjunction with Museo de las Americas’ Feb. 12 “Chicano” exhibit, begins at 10 a.m. on Feb. 7 at 1200 Broadway. $8 for kids 6-12; $12 for adults (children 5 and under free). 303-447-8679 or .
