Re: “Gun bills return to the Colorado Capitol, but this time from the GOP,” Jan. 28 news story.

In his opposition to Colorado’s gun control laws, state Rep. Janak Joshi, R-Colorado Springs, asked, “If someone wants to transfer a gun within a family, or transfer heirloom guns or antique guns, why do they need to pay for a background check when itap a Second Amendment right?”

What a shame Joshi has not read the regulations. House Bill 1229, passed in 2013, states very clearly that the law exempts background check requirements for antique firearms and gifts between immediate family members.


If our lawmakers don’t understand our current laws, can we trust them to craft new ones?
