The family of a who disappeared in the high country last week has solicited the services of a private K-9 team to help search for him.
Colton Wilson was last seen Jan. 29 on a security camera leaving his dorm at the Colorado Mountain College’s campus in Leadville. He was wearing plaid pajama pants and loafers.
The K-9 team began searching on Thursday morning in the woods around the college, the county’s emergency management office said.
“Although the circumstances are unusual, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office does not suspect any foul play and is currently not investigating any crimes associated with (Wilson’s) disappearance,” the office said in a news release.
The office said it has been investigating reports of possible sightings, but has yet to locate the missing teen. Officials say they are following all leads and possibilities pertaining to the disappearance.
“At this time we have an adult male who left campus on his own accord for unknown reasons,” the office said.
Officials say search efforts in the surrounding areas of the college indicate it is unlikely the teen lost in the woods and snow.
“As a college community, our thoughts are with Colton and his family, and we are hoping he will be found soon, safe and sound,” the college said in a post.
Colton is originally from Norman, Okla., according to his Facebook page. Many have posted worried pleas and prayers on his profile, expressing their hope for his safe return.
Wilson is described as a white male, 6’4″, 160 pounds, with brown hair, brown eyes and light facial hair, according to the post.
