art A master’s mysterious output of etchings

through April 4 Art has the power to be both beautiful and troubling, and often at the same time. Francisco Goya’s etching collection titled “Los Desastres de la Guerra (The Disasters of War),” is among the most historically important examples. Some mystery surrounds how and when the artist created them, though it was certainly over four or five years, beginning around 1810. The etchings, on display at the Colorado State University Art Museum, are simple yet graphic, recounting scenes of brutality and violence inflicted during the six-year Spanish war against Napoleon, which lasted though 1813. The 80 works were not published until 1863, a full 30 years after Goya’s death. Through April 4. University Center for the Arts, 1400 Remington St., Fort Collins. Free. 970- 491-1989 or .
