FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Quinton Upshur scored a season-high 31 points, and Northern Arizona stopped Northern Colorado’s comeback bid in the final seconds Thursday night for a 65-60 victory.

Northern Colorado’s Cameron Michael missed a 3-point attempt that would have tied the game with 15 seconds left, and Upshur hit two free throws to cap the scoring.

Michael made 6-of-10 3-pointers and finished with 22 points to lead the Bears (11-10, 6-4 Big Sky).

THURSDAY’S HIGHLIGHT

Jermaine Sanders had 15 points and nine rebounds, and Farad Cobb and Troy Caupain each added 14 points to lead Cincinnati to a 62-54 victory over No. 23 SMU.

Women

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — C. Vivian Stringer passed Rene Portland of Penn State to become the Big Ten’s all-time winningest women’s coach when No. 21 Rutgers beat 19th-ranked Nebraska 46-43.

Stringer earned 169 of her 177 Big Ten victories when she was coaching at Iowa.
