The Australian duo of Nicholas Kay and Mitch McCarron scored 20 points apiece Friday night, and Metro State avenged an earlier loss to Colorado Mines with a 67-57 victory.

No. 11 Metro State (19-3, 14-2 RMAC) closed the first half on a 17-8 run and held off No. 13 Mines (17-3, 13-3) and hot-shooting Trevor Ritchie (17 points) in the second half at the Auraria Event Center.

The victory moved the Roadrunners, winners of seven consecutive games, into first place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, a half-game ahead of CU-Colorado Springs.

Women

LOS ANGELES — Nirra Field scored 24 points to lead UCLA to a 72-65 victory over Colorado.

Jamee Swan led the Buffaloes (10-12, 3-8 Pac-12) with 17 points.

Friday’s highlights

Taylor Helbig had 18 points and eight rebounds, Courtney Martin added 16 points and seven rebounds, and Colorado Mines beat Metro State 69-64. … Twelve players scored for No. 18 Princeton in an 83-44 win over Columbia. Michelle Miller scored 16 points to lead Princeton (20-0).
