The northbound lanes of Interstate 25 in Northglenn were closed for more than two hours Friday morning after an RTD bus struck and severely injured a pedestrian.
The closure began at the 104th Avenue exit at about 7 a.m. and lasted through 9:30 a.m. Officials strongly advised motorists to seek alternate routes as the closure created a miles-long backup.
Northglenn police said the pedestrian was a 32-year-old man who they declined to identify. He is at a hospital being treated.
Updates on the pedestrian’s condition were not immediately available. There were no passengers aboard the bus when the pedestrian was hit.
The bus was traveling in the center lane when the man came running out into traffic, directly in front of the bus, said Scott Reed, an RTD spokesman, citing witness reports.
“For some reason there was someone actually on the highway,” Reed said.
Police said the bus driver is cooperating with their investigation.
