An early photo of Dr. Justina Ford, Denver’s first female African-American doctor. Medical bag in hand, she is ready to step into her car.

Justina L. Ford (1871-1952) lived in the house that you can now find at 3091 California St. (it was originally constructed at 2335 Arapahoe St.).

During her time in Denver, she delivered more than 7,000 babies.

Per the : “Ford graduated from Chicago’s Hering Medical College in 1899 and practiced briefly in Alabama before coming to Denver in 1902. She was Colorado’s first Black female doctor and until her death remained the only such physician in Denver.”
