Fire crews in Eagle County on Wednesday rescued a dog that fell through ice covering a small pond in Edwards while chasing ducks.
The dog, Pancho, was rescued by a firefighter donning a dive suit who safely returned the pet to dry land, the Eagle River Fire Protection district said.
Fire officials used the rescue to remind the public to stay off suspect ice covering bodies of water.
“No ice should ever be considered completely safe, and never put your safety in jeopardy by following your dog onto thin ice or attempting a rescue yourself,” the district said.
