GREELEY — Authorities have released the names of two people who were killed in a small plane crash in Weld County.
The county coroner’s office identified the victims Thursday as 79-year-old John “Jack” Burt, of Aurora, and 65-year-old Richard LaCourse, of Denver.
Stephanie Cooke, a spokeswoman for the Platte Valley Fire Protection District, says the plane crashed into a field near Kersey on Wednesday afternoon, sparking a small grass fire.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer says the aircraft is a Wheeler Express, which the Greeley Tribune reports falls into the agency’s experimental category because it was amateur built. Such planes can be bought as a kit and assembled without the supervision and quality control of a production certificate holder.
The plane was registered to LaCourse.
