Re: “Kudos to Denver Water for low water usage,” Feb. 17 letter to the editor.

Before we pat ourselves on the back too energetically about Denver’s lowest water usage in 40 years, let’s remember last summer.

I never turned on my sprinkler system in 2014; every time I thought maybe I should, we’d get another rainstorm. It was a truly lovely season, with a beneficial mix of sunshine and rain — but one year is not a trend. If 2015 is more typical, will we be shocked and disappointed next January to see how water usage shot upward after we?d made such great strides in conservation?

Let’s hold off on the congratulations until it’s more clear we’ve earned them.

Nancy B. Weil,Denver
