Late Tuesday, the Chicago Bulls announced that point guard to repair his right meniscus.

Rose had reported having pain in the knee a day after the Bulls’ victory over the Bucks on Monday, and an MRI revealed the exam. His timetable to return is unknown at this point.

The procedure will be Rose’s third knee surgery in four years: He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee at the start of the 2011 playoffs, missed all of the subsequent season to recover, returned in 2013 only to tear the meniscus in his right knee 10 games in, and will now miss the remainder of this season to have that same ligament repaired once more.

Rose has helped the Bulls to the No. 3 spot in the East this season, averaging 18.4 points on 40.7 percent shooting from the field with 5.0 assists in 46 games — his best numbers since the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season.

For the most part, it appeared as though vintage Derrick Rose had (finally) returned. But, again, his season ended early, for reasons beyond his control.

On Tuesday, after news broke of his latest injury, his fellow NBA players, as well as athletes in other sports and media, took to Twitter to wish him a speedy recovery.

People who say “He’ll be fine, he’s rich” when something bad happens to an athlete are jealous, petty people who will never be happy in life

— Sarah Spain (@SarahSpain)

I hate what I’m hearing for Derek Rose. If so that’s terrible. He’s could be so great but this stuff is out of his control. So sad man.

— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE)

The general feeling right now within the organization is one of disbelief.
