Interview with Terry and Kristel Halbrook, owners

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: As bikers, we saw a need in the Denver metro and surrounding areas for an independent motorcycle apparel and accessories store other than the dealerships. We contacted Renegade Classics in California and were approved to open a store of our own in Colorado.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: Other than the motorcycle brand dealerships, there are very few businesses in our category. In the Denver metro area from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins there are only a handful of stores similar to Renegade Classics, but none like ours. We carry leather jackets, chaps and vests for men and women. We also carry helmets, boots, raingear, luggage, throw over saddle bags, headgear, gloves and other miscellaneous biker-related merchandise at affordable prices. We have over 1,000 patches in stock and new ones arriving weekly. We sew the patches on whether you purchase them from us or you bring in your own. We have been told that we have better pricing for our sewing then any other place in the area. We also pride ourselves on our customer service. We will welcome you with a warm smile and a hardy “hello,” and treat you as one of our family.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: The best part of this line of work is the customers and the friends that we have made over the years and the friends that we will continue to make in the years to come. We often joke with our customers that our store is a biker’s toy store. We, as owners, and our customers are one big happy family that continues to grow with each other. Our work is a lot of fun on a daily basis. We get to meet a lot of different and interesting people every day.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: Our biggest challenge is time. Being a family-owned, independent small business, it takes a lot of time and effort to keep operating. We both work in our store ourselves to be able to maintain the friendly and family-owned feel. We get to live through our customers daily. We would love to be out on our motorcycles on a great weather day, but we are here for them to come by.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: Renegade Classics started as a T-shirt printing business in Fresno, Calif. We carry the specific Renegade Classics shirts that started all of these stores. There are 30 stores nationwide which are all independently owned by bikers just like us.
