Erik Julius, general manager
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I got involved with Treads by accident, actually. One of my co-workers at the ski shop I worked at always had good things to say about the work environment as well as the fun rides they went on. I’ve been involved in the bike industry for more 18 years and believe that Treads is one of the best shops out there.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We are a locally owned bicycle shop with the consumer in mind, and it shows. We are a relaxed group of cyclists first, that loves what it does, and it shows. We are here for you whether it’s your first time in for a tube or you’re just looking or you’re on your ninth bike purchase, we treat everyone with the same respect. We take a fit-first approach to bike fitting. Once it is determined what the customer’s goals are as well as the intended use, we will take the time to ensure a proper fit. We help our customers select bikes based on their short- and long-term goals. This is why we guarantee satisfaction.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I enjoy any trips on my bikes (on- or off-road), even commuting (except for those bitter cold days). I love working with such a strong team. I’ve never worked anywhere else that can compare to the electric mix of bike geeks, trekies, “Johnny Utahs,” weight weenies, racers, politicians, roof-droppers and dirt-jumpers. The list goes on. Without all those guys, there wouldn’t be a Treads.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: The biggest challenge that we face is the off season. Most years, around the winter months, it’s a really slow time in the cycling industry. This season is shaping up to be different, though. There have been some exceptional swings in the temperature over the past couple of months that I believe have really helped boost our sales. Don’t get me wrong, I love the snow. And if you haven’t ridden a fat bike yet, you really need to.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: We go above and beyond in the bike sales process. We practice a fit-first approach to help ensure that you receive a proper fit as well as the right type of bike for your short- and long-term goals.
