Police in Northglenn arrested a man on Tuesday night after they say he fired a handgun, fled from responding officers, resisted arrest and was tased before he was taken into custody.

One police officer also fired a gunshot during the incident, police said.

Officers responded to the 10600 block of Ura Lane on reports of shots fired at about 8 p.m. and spotted a man matching the description of a possible suspect.

“As (police) attempted contact, the suspect fled,” according to a news release. “Officers set up a perimeter around the area in which the suspect was last observed. The suspect was later located and officers gave verbal commands for him to surrender.”

When the suspect refused, police said, an officer fired a single shot.

Police tased the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Jonathan Muniz. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Authorities say they haven’t determined what or whom Muniz was shooting at.

Muniz was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including possession of a weapon by a previous offender and resisting arrest. Muniz is being held at the Adams County jail.

Anyone with information on Muniz or the shooting is asked to call Northglenn police at (303) 450-8893.
