Arapahoe Library District card-holders looking to bone up on their professional skills now have free access to a unique tool in .
With an active district library card, users have complimentary access to the website and its deep database of skills-focused instructional video courses.
The site offers videos covering job hunting, business, marketing , Microsoft and Adobe software skills, and many other subjects, according to the library district.
Certificates of completion are available for some subjects via the website.
Access to the courses could cost private subscribers up to $25 per month, district officials say. Meanwhile, the district pays $18,000 per year to allow access to all of its estimated 250,000 card-holders, said Cindy Phillips, the district’s manager of library materials services.
Since adding Lynda.com as a resource in mid-November, district members have accessed more than 260 course sessions through the site, Phillips said.
The service differs from , another online learning tool offered through the district, because Lynda.com’s programming is available on an as-needed basis. Where GaleCourses connects users with a real instructor over a set, 6-week period, users can access Lynda.com whenever is most convenient for them and have access to all of the course material or just a small section of it if they prefer. Phillips said.
“You really have a lot of flexibility,” Phillips said. “I have taken a number of classes through them and they’re great.”
