Authorities in Jefferson County are searching for two suspects responsible for taking more than a dozen golf carts on joy rides on two occasions this month, causing more than $25,000 damage.
The two allegedly damaged the carts during rides Feb. 1 and Feb. 7 at the Meadows Golf Course in the 7000 block of Meadows Golf Club Drive.
“The suspects gained access by damaging a locked fence that housed the carts,” the county sheriff’s office said. “The damage to the fence alone is over $2,700. Both incidents happened overnight and carts were taken for rides on the course and on nearby Jeffco Open Space land.”
Thirteen carts were damaged during the two incidents, some of which had their windshields broken off and roofs removed.
“Carts had been rolled and left on their side, driven into landscaping and into a water hazard,” the office said.
A surveillance camera captured the two suspects in the act. They are believed to be linked to a white, four-door sedan with a sunroof.
