The second rapid sellout of tickets for a ski train from Denver to Winter Park has spurred talk by rail and resort officials of restoring some version of regular service, suspended since 2009. And why not, if there is sufficient demand? The train trip features terrific scenery and spares skiers the hassles and stress of driving, particularly over a sometimes wet Berthoud Pass.

But , “Amtrak also needs to think about the price of the tickets, so it’s not losing money,” according to a rail spokesman. Round-trip tickets for two trains may have sold at $75, but would they sell like that every week?
