Interview with Matt Kurgan, founder
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I got involved in this business because of my strong passion for fresh-roasted coffee and my desire to own my own business. I knew from a young age that I wanted to start my own business, but was unsure of what industry to get into. I worked at a number of coffee roasters over the years and began roasting out of my house. I then knew I wanted to start a company in the coffee industry and started Pangea Coffee.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: What distinguishes us most from other companies is the experience you will encounter at our store or from our mobile unit. From the time we greet you, serve you and say goodbye, we will strive to make your experience as positive as possible while serving you the highest quality product. We put a heavy emphasis on making a friendly, clean and inspiring environment.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: The thing I like most about my line of work is all the different people I meet. Coffee attracts many people and I meet hundreds of different people every week. I am always interested in where they come from and what they have to say. Whether it’s at our store, serving out of our mobile unit or delivering to a wholesale account, there is always something new to discuss or people to meet.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: The biggest challenge for me starting this business is time. There are many places to be, people to meet and orders to fulfill. Sometimes it can get a bit crazy juggling the workload and trying to have some personal time. But, somehow, I manage to do so.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: People are always curious on how we came up with our name. I was always fascinated with the scientific theory of Pangea (or Pangaea) and realized it fit with our business. We bring coffees in from all over the world to Golden to be roasted. All together under our roof, we are Pangea!
