Westbound I-70 between Colfax Avenue and Tower Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday for road repair.

That part of the highway has deteriorated due to continued moisture from winter weather and several freeze/thaw cycles, making emergency permanent repair work necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Crews usually work at night to lessen impact on traffic.

“In this case, we must work during the day due to the availability of concrete needed for the job,” said Tony DeVito, CDOT regional transportation director.

The permanent repair work includes removing damaged concrete pavement and replacing it with high-strength concrete.

The detour around the closure will be Colfax Avenue to Tower Road, then return to westbound I-70.
