An eye on the dark skies
Take an evening stargazing lesson at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument on Mar. 14. From 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., the park will host a Measuring the Dark night sky program, where guests will learn how to count stars to measure light pollution. Bring binoculars and flashlights. Jazz in Durango
The third annual Durango Ragtime and Early Jazz Festival is Mar. 20-22. Learn about ragtime and early jazz culture with classic-movie screenings, live music, ragtime dance lessons, symposiums and much more. Events take place at the historic Strater Hotel. Ticket prices vary; all-access festival passes are $85.
Get Down in Telluride
Telluride’s Mountain Town Get Down is Mar. 28-29. Celebrating the end of winter and the beginning of spring, this weekend includes on-and-off-the-mountain fun with free concerts, a luau and a bikini slalom competition.
Ski history tours
Skiing in Aspen on a weekday? Through April 17, take an afternoon ski-history tour to learn about the town’s ski culture in the 1970s and how locals contributed to the birth of freestyle skiing. Tours are free with purchase of a lift ticket and take place at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Aspen Highlands on Mondays and Aspen Mountain on Fridays. aspenhistory.org or 970-925-3721
