Big news for Boulder chef-farmer : He is a finalist for a prestigious cookbook award for “Farm, Fork, Food: A Year of Spectacular Recipes Inspired by Black Cat Farm.”

The award in the “American” category is sponsored by the International Association of Culinary Professionals and is considered the top prize in the world of cookbooks.

“It’s totally crazy,” Skokan told The Denver Post Friday morning. “I’ve got planting on the brain right now and this came out of nowhere. It’s pretty exciting.”

The cookbook has been doing well. “We’ve killed it regionally and we’re also doing well nationally,” Skokan said. “Oddly, we’re also doing really well in the United Kingdom.” (The publisher, Kyle Books, is based in London.)

Skokan, the chef owner of and , is in good company. Other nominees including Charleston, S.C.-based chef Sean Brock for “Heritage,” Donald Link and Paul Disbrowed for “Down South: Bourbon, Pork, GulfShrimp and Second Helpings of Everything” and Alexe van Beuren and Dixie Grimes for “The B.T.C. Old Fashioned Grocery Cookbook.”
