An 11-year-old boy riding his bike was seriously injured after colliding with a pickup truck in Aurora on Monday morning, police said.

The collision happened about 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of East 13th Avenue and Florence Street. The boy, who suffered head trauma, was taken to Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Police said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say the boy is a student at West Middle School, which is near where he was struck.

Police say security camera footage from the school captured the crash and showed the truck coming to a complete stop at the stop sign before making a right turn and hitting the boy.

“The footage also shows the 11-year-old victim did not stop riding his bike before crossing East 13th Avenue from the sidewalk,” the release said. “The truck began making its right turn just as the bike came out onto the street.”

Police say the driver of the truck stayed on the scene and spoke with investigators.

Charges against the driver, whose identity police declined to release, are pending. Authorities say the driver was dropping his child off for school when the collision happened.
