Larimer County authorities say a man arrested Sunday night on suspicion of assaulting a woman kicked a deputy in the groin as he was being taken to jail and then urinated and defecated in a holding cell.

The man is also accused of throwing his feces at a window and flooding his cell after breaking an overhead sprinkler, the county sheriff’s office said in a news release issued Tuesday.

Charles Lee Kettering, 63, is being held at the county jail in lieu of $10,000 on several charges, including second-degree assault, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer and harassment.

Deputies were dispatched to the 3600 block of Crescent Drive in Fort Collins on Sunday night on reports of an assault.

A woman there told authorities she was assaulted by Kettering, according to the release. Officials say they found probable cause to arrest him in the case.

“During transport to the Larimer County Jail, Kettering rammed his head against the inside of the patrol vehicle multiple times,” the release said. “When they arrived at the jail, Kettering resisted corrections deputies when he exited the patrol vehicle and kicked a deputy in his (inner thigh) area.”

Guards removed Kettering’s handcuffs and began to leave the cell when Kettering kicked a deputy in the shin, the sheriff’s office said.

“After urinating on the cell floor, Kettering defecated on the floor and threw it on the cell window,” the release said. “Kettering then broke the fire suppression sprinkler head from the ceiling in the cell causing water to flow onto the floor that started to flood the booking area.”

Specialized jail deputies then responded to the holding cell and as they tried to remove him Kettering allegedly rushed toward the guards, the office said.

“A Taser was successfully deployed and Kettering was placed in restraints,” the release said. “(Deputies) moved Kettering to another booking cell where he eventually became compliant.”
