Shelley Smith, a veteran guard and former standout at Colorado State, agreed to a two-year, $5.65 million contract with the Denver Broncos.

Released by the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, Smith will compete with Ben Garland to replace Orlando Franklin, signed a .

Smith was supposed to visit the Falcons on Saturday, but that trip was canceled after he reached an agreement with the Broncos.

Smith is experienced in the zone-blocking system favored by Kubiak and Broncos offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, when all three were with Houston. Although Smith never got in a game for the Texans, he spent time on their practice squad, active roster and injured reserve learning the system.
