March 27-29: Here’s some early warning on Colorado Ballet’s production of “Peter and the Wolf,” which could very well sell out before it hits the Newman Center next week. The piece is as popular as it was in 1936 when Sergei Prokofiev composed the score while on a mission to get get kids interested in classical music. Filmmakers, animators and theater directors have had their way with the story of the boy who chased down a wolf and saved his village, and so have choreographers, like Michael Smuin, who created the movement for this version. The ballet event starts with a special bonus, a performance of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1, choreographed by Clark Tippet. March 27-29, Newman Center, on the University of Denver campus, 2344 E. Iliff Ave. $25-$75.
