As a lifelong Democrat, I was deeply embarrassed to witness Democrats on three Colorado House legislative committees recently torpedo common-sense bills that embody mainstream Colorado values.

The first bill (House Bill 1128) would have instituted standards for abortion clinics commensurate with the complexity of surgical procedures that they perform. Lack of these standards and oversight has resulted in significant morbidity and mortality in other states including Pennsylvania, Florida and Michigan. The second bill (House Bill 1112) would have required medically appropriate care for the rare, but well-documented, survivors of abortion. The last bill (House Bill 1162) would have banned abortion solely for the purpose of sex selection, which is known to occur in the U.S. and is the most egregious form of sexism.

Democrats in the House demonstrated fealty to radical pro-abortion elements in the party and could not muster the courage to vote for any of these bills.
