The 2015-16 season will feature some familiar names, plus a lineup of newer dancers and musicians who are on the leading edge of the country’s performing arts scene.

Among the more innovative acts: Choreographer , who will team with the local troupe, , on Jan. 20, and the string quartet , known for playing commissioned works by contemporary pop and classical composers, set to appear Jan. 14.

The year brings some American standards. Twyla Tharp Dance opens the season Sept. 24-25, with a program celebrating its namesake’s 50th anniversary of creating movement for ballet companies and .

Popular piano man Michael Feinstein appears Oct. 22, with “The Great American Songbook.”

There are a few unexpected twists. An appearance by Paul Taylor’s American Modern Dance on Feb. 20-21 will feature a new piece, co-commissioned by the Newman Center itself.

On May 5, pianist and composer Billy Childs will present “Map to the Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro,” with three impressive backup players — , Becca Stevens and Alicia Olatuja.

The center will bring several headliners to Colorado for the first time, including Vertigo Dance, which will perform a piece called “‘Reshimo,” that draws its inspiration from the Kabbalah, on Oct. 17.

Newman will also host the first tour of the New York-based world music festival, globalFEST, which brings “Creole Carnival” March 29

For opera fans, there’s the Metropolitan Opera Rising Stars Concert Series, which brings new faces and voices to town March 5.

Newman is offering season packages and will follow that up with tickets for individual shows. Subscriptions renewals are on sale now. New subscriptions will be available May 1, and single tickets go out July 13.
