The last of three defendants in a 2013 vehicle chase that left a police officer so badly injured that he had to retire was sentenced by a Douglas County judge Monday afternoon to four years of probation.
Gwendolyn Paige Devilbiss, 21, of Thornton, pleaded guilty in January to second-degree burglary in the case.
Devilbiss was a passenger in a truck with two men — one of whom, 25-year-old Clifford Galley, was wanted by the North Metro Drug Task Force — when they fled officers in Castle Rock in February 2013. She was shot by officers during the pursuit and lost a kidney as a result. Galley was Devilbiss’ boyfriend.
The three defendants were in the stolen vehicle that was in a Taco Bell drive-through when law enforcement officers moved in to arrest Galley. Police said, “The officers blocked the vehicle from being able to get out, but Galley revved the truck and repeatedly rammed the stolen truck back-and-forth into officers’ vehicles, eventually getting away.”
