Showtime is banking on “Billions” from journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin, a drama set in the world of high finance and starring Paul Giamatti and Damian Lewis, the network announced today. “Billions” will get a 12-episode run to premiere in 2016.

Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Giamatti returns to TV in his first regular series role (he won an Emmy for his role in the “John Adams” miniseries), opposite Emmy-winner Lewis (“Homeland”). Sorkin, author of “Too Big to Fail,” will share writing and producing duties with Brian Koppelman and David Levien.

The story concerns the collision in the world of high finance of U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti), and the ambitious hedge fund king, Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Lewis).
