FORT COLLINS — It hasn’t taken long for Colorado State senior running back Treyous Jarrells to impress the new Rams coaching staff.
“We’ve had a few live drills and I’m really pleased with Treyous,” first-year CSU coach Mike Bobo said Tuesday following a spring practice session.
Jarrells (5-foot-7 and 185 pounds) backed up Dee Hart in 2014 but was productive when called upon. Jarrells rushed for 450 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 5.2 yards per carry. His six TDs ranked only behind the 17 scored by wide receiver Rashard Higgins and 16 by Hart, who has entered the NFL draft.
“I like how he runs with the football,” Bobo said of Jarrells. “He’s not a big guy. But he runs extremely hard. He has the ability to break tackles.
“Treyous is very, very smart,” Bobo added. “He probably understands our offense better than anybody on offense (including quarterbacks) — signals, code words, being able to tell guys what to do.”
Bobo said sophomore Dalyn Dawkins (5-9, 175), a transfer from Purdue, “is another guy who has caught my eye.
“We’ve got to get (Dawkins) to slow down a little bit. He runs so hard and can get a little out of control. He needs a little more patience. But he’s not afraid of anything.”
