Bye bye DishWorld, hello Sling International!
DishWorld officially ditched the Dish moniker on Friday and renamed itself to . International users still can order nearly 200 channels in 18 languages. Live-streaming TV plans start at $10 per month.
But this is not as simple as Sling TV. While the international plans work much like Sling TV because they stream live video to mobile apps, Sling International has no single base pack of channels.
It’s more like à la carte TV. You pick what language you want — starting at $10 a month for , $20 for , $30 for , etc.
Some languages have additional tiers for a fee, plus there are international tiers like World Sports for $10 a month. But not all tiers are available for all languages. For example, you can’t order World Sports tier for $10 if you’re on the $10 Spanish plan. To see what extras you actually have access to, you’ll need to add a base plan to your account first. Like so:
For Sling International users, you start with a base language plan before you can add extra channel tiers. But not everyone has access to the same add-on tiers. You’ll need to add them first to see what shows up.
Definitely not as simple as the original Sling TV service, which offers about 20 channels for $20 a month. Kids, sports and news tiers are extra. That’s it.
If international users want to add regular , the nice thing is you can do so within the same account for another $20 a month. Likewise, Sling TV subscribers can add-on language plans by adjusting their account.
But regular Sling TV subscribers cannot add international tiers unless they already subscribe to a basic language plan. Make sense?
DishWorld is a big part of Sling TV’s history. In April 2013, the Douglas County company used DishWorld to experiment with streaming live TV. It found that existing international satellite TV subscribers didn’t cancel their service and switch to streaming only. It attracted brand new customers.
“Dish wasn’t the competition,” said Roger Lynch, Sling’s CEO said when the service. “That was our hope and what we hope for with our (Sling TV) service.”
