Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is located in northwest Denver. (Helen H. Richardson, Denver Post file)
Re: “At Denver’s Helikon Gallery, a good Friday exhibit,” April 3 Entertainment story.
Ray Mark Rinaldi’s timely report on the importance of “art that explores faith seriously” is a sad and painful reminder of the sacrilege that one of Denver’s most beautiful and inspiring examples of religious art remains hidden from view. A concrete wall, erected years ago at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, obscures a magnificent mural of Our Lady of Guadalupe beyond the altar.
Parishioners and former parishioners, baffled by the intransigence of church authorities who refuse to authorize the wall’s removal, continue to hope and pray for an end to the wall’s obscene presence.
