An 18-year veteran of the Regional Transportation District will likely head the agency while a search begins for the permanent successor to outgoing general manager .
An RTD search committee Tuesday unanimously picked Dave interim general manager. The full RTD board of directors will vote on the search committee’s recommendation on Thursday.
Genova was one of two internal RTD applicants for the job, said search committee chair Chuck Sisk.
Genova is currently the agency’s assistant general manager of Safety, Security and Facilities. Genova’s expertise includes overall rail safety requirements, policy experience, diverse leadership skills, emergency management and capital programs, according to RTD.
He also has won numerous awards and is a member of the U.S. Department of Transportation Transit Rail Advisory Committee for Safety.
Washington, who has led RTD as general manager and CEO, is leaving to become head of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Besides naming Genova as temporary chief of RTD, the search committee Tuesday also outlined its timeline for naming a long-term replacement for Washington.
The five member panel tentatively set January, 2016, as the deadline for hiring a new RTD boss.
That should give RTD enough time to hire a firm to launch a national search for a general manager and to get input from local governments, residents and employees, Sisk said.
“We want to reach out and seek out our stakeholders,” said Sisk. “There is certainly a lot of interest, a lot of people want to be involved in this.”
