I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical when I heard that a new restaurant selling SoCal-inspired Mexican food had opened in Denver’s Lowry development.
The place is called , a reference to the area around San Diego, and it’s excellent.
In my , I swooned over the tacos, which are savory and boast an array of creative toppings that go beyond the usual shredded cabbage and cilantro.
This photo shows a trio of them. From left to right: the Da Baby el pastor, the $3 house taco with rotisserie pork, charred pineapple and onions, plus salsa verde; the crispy duck confit, with citrus and cayenne-marinated mango, citrus-roasted Anaheim peppers and a creamy Baja slaw; and a chargrilled ahi with cotija, cabbage slaw with honey and lime, chipotle crema and mango salsa.
So much for skepticism — my doubts vanished even quicker than the tacos.
