GREELEY — Police are investigating a fatal traffic crash Friday evening in northwest Greeley involving a single cement mixer.
One person was confirmed dead in the crash that occurred around 5:13 p.m. at a tight curve on O Street just west of 47th Avenue.
O Street was closed much of the night from 47th Avenue to 59th Avenue while crews cleared the scene, said Lt. Roy Smith of the Greeley Police Department.
Smith said police are working to determine the cause of the crash.
At first glance, Smith said, it seems as if the driver, a 56-year-old man, may have over-corrected around a curve, which moved his load and forced the truck to roll. Smith said police did not initially suspect alcohol, drugs or distractions such as texting were involved.
The driver is the 24th person to die on Weld County roads this year. At this same time last year and in 2013, there had been only been seven deaths on Weld roads.
