Neither too big nor small, StarFest is just right

Friday-Sunday Over the past few years, Denver has become home to more than a half-dozen surprisingly substantial sci-fi, fantasy, anime and cosplay (costuming) conventions. But as one of the oldest and most respected, StarFest strikes a balance between Denver Comic Con’s bewildering array of options and some of the more homespun, literary versions. The celebrity guests at StarFest’s 38th annual installment, which is expecting in excess of 10,000 attendees, include Richard Dean Anderson (“MacGyver,” “Stargate”), a partial cast reunion of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,”Michael Welch (“Twilight”), Mark Goddard (“Lost in Space”) and more amid the panels, booths and contests. April 17-19, Marriott Denver Tech Center, 4900 S. Syracuse Ave. $15-$55. . John Wenzel
