Maybe not for Peat’s sake, but for the Broncos, they wouldn’t mind if the former Stanford All American falls in the draft.
Andrus Peat, considered anywhere from the best to a top five offensive tackle in this year’s draft that begins April 30, is visiting Wednesday with the Broncos.
Entering the draft after his true junior season at Stanford, it would not be a surprise if Peat is the top offensive tackle on the Broncos’ board. Problem is, they don’t get to use that board until they’re on the clock with the No. 28 overall pick. Unless, of course, they dangle their second or third-round draft picks to trade up.
Peat is large at 6-foot-7, 313 pounds but extremely light on his feet. He and left tackle Ryan Clady would form a dynamic dancing tackle duo in the Broncos’ new zone-blocking scheme preferred by coach Gary Kubiak and offensive coordinator Rick Dennison.
Almost all the top offensive tackles in the draft played left tackle at college — Peat started every game at left tackle his sophomore and junior seasons. But many college-dominant left tackles begin their NFL careers at right tackle.
Right tackle appears to be the Broncos’ greatest need and they’ve been visiting with their share of prospects. The team visited with T.J. Clemmings last week, plans on meeting with Cedric Ogbuehi next Tuesday and previously worked out tackle-guard Ty Sambrailo.
