Colorado 74 in Evergreen has fully reopened after engineers completed more than a week of unexpected work necessary to fully stabilize the road.

during construction of a .

The work required full closure of a portion of the highway along the lake, prompting a detour that caused some traffic congestion.

Some single-lane and full closures are planned for next week as contractor Goodland Construction completes the pedestrian bridge near the roadway.

According to a notice from Goodland, Colorado 74 is scheduled to be down to one lane between Upper Bear Creek Road and downtown Evergreen from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. April 28 and 29 to pour a concrete abutment, and again on May 6 for final back fill and clean up.

The same section of the road will be fully closed during nighttime hours, 7 p.m.-5 a.m., May 4-6 to allow for installation of the bridge.

Goodland co-owner Louis Worland said all work and closures are weather-dependent.

The 200-foot pedestrian bridge will connect the north end of the Evergreen Lake dam to a concrete path that leads to downtown merchants, restaurants and galleries. The Downtown Evergreen Economic District, or DEED, contributed $30,000 and Evergreen Park and Recreation District secured a $250,000 grant toward the cost of the project.

The bridge is also part of a larger project spearheaded by DEED to connect a number of trails between Evergreen High School, downtown, Hiwan Homestead Museum and nearby parks.
