The Denver Post is opening access to its digital content on desktop, mobile and apps for the duration of the trial of James Holmes in the Aurora theater shooting.
On July 20, 2012, Holmes opened fire during a screening of “The Dark Knight Rises,” killing 12 and wounding 70. His trial begins Monday with opening arguments. It is expected to last four to five months.
“We are pleased that everyone interested in monitoring this trial – which could lead to the death penalty for Mr. Holmes – will have unfettered access to this coverage,” said Post Editor Gregory L. Moore. “We make this extraordinary move because of the high public interest in this case and its consequences.”
The Post’s trial coverage will feature live blogs, a live stream of the proceedings, a daily highlights package, photo galleries, video interviews and stories from inside and outside the courtroom produced by multi-media journalists who have followed the story since 2012.
The Post, Colorado’s largest news organization, implemented an All-Access program in November 2013. In addition to ensuring that coverage of the trial is available to the community, the Post’s entire range of coverage in , , and will be free.
