Re: “Bicyclists take backseat to vehicles,” April 26 Mike Rosen column.
Mike Rosen appears to endorse the idea that bicyclists are second-class citizens on Colorado roads. He cites examples of rude and reckless cyclists to support his position.
Mr. Rosen, when is the last time you observed a vehicle speeding, rolling through a stop sign or red light, or accelerating through a yellow light?
There are many on both sides — bikers and drivers — who act as if the rules of the road do not apply to them. Why is the courtesy of waiting to pass a slow-moving vehicle until safe not extended to cyclists?
If bicycles were registered, would the attitude of “I own the road” on both sides no longer exist? Would the Colorado Department of Transportation and cities build bike lanes on existing roads? Are drivers aware that, when passing a cyclist, they are to remain at least 3 feet away from the cyclist?
How about we show respect to each other?
