The Denver Police Department recognized on Twitter four local citizens who successfully chased down a purse snatcher Wednesday afternoon.
A woman was going to a restaurant near Evans Avenue and Broadway when a man came and snatched her purse, said police spokesman Sonny Jackson.
Four witnesses began chasing the man, caught him and detained him with a zip tie until police arrived, Jackson said.
Jackson said one of the men was a construction worker who had a zip tie on him at the time.
The suspect appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, Jackson said, so an ambulance was called for him, but he did not appear to be hurt.
“We don’t encourage people to put themselves in danger and be a vigilante, but we also recognize these folks who help a fellow citizen,” Jackson said.
