Kids from a Highlands Ranch elementary school are going home early today because their school doesn’t have power.

Redstone Elementary School is sending children home immediately, the Douglas County School District said in a 10 a.m. news release.

Parents were notified, and no students will be released until the school confirms that a family member or emergency contact is in place.

This applies to children who walk, ride the bus or are picked up.

The second-grade field trip is canceled, but the Outdoor Education overnight trip will continue.

The news release said the district is working with Xcel Energy to find out what caused the outage and to make repairs.
