EVERGREEN — Plans are in the works for a new amenity at Evergreen Lake House that will also serve as a memorial for a community member who lost his life at the lake this winter.

The Evergreen Recreation and Park Foundation will be raising funds for a fire pit to honor .

“Before Greg passed away, we were already working on this pit,” said Tom Carby, a Farmers Insurance agent in Evergreen involved in the effort. “We already came up with the conceptual ideas and design, and when he passed, we became a bit more motivated on the project.”

Henika was a volunteer with Blue Spruce Kiwanis in Evergreen and was .

The gas-fueled fire pit will be made of flagstone and steel, with a plaque dedicated to Henika. The planned location is a deck over the lake near the lake house.

Carby said the foundation is aiming to raise about $12,000 for the project, which will be a gift to the district.

The district’s lake house supervisor, Brad Bednar, assured the board that district staff would have full control of the gas-fueled pit and will take the appropriate precautions.
