BOULDER — Dynel Lane spent about an hour inside her Longmont residence discussing various subjects with Michelle Wilkins — including Wilkins’ pregnancy — before luring her down to the basement, attacking her with a lava lamp and cutting her baby from her womb, the district attorney’s office says.

A brief filed this week in Boulder District Court in advance of next week’s preliminary hearing in the case stemming from the March 18 incident said Lane first attacked Wilkins with her hands before she broke a lava lamp over Wilkins’ head.

Prosecutors allege Lane stabbed Wilkins in the neck with the broken lava lamp and then choked and tried to smother her with a pillow.

After Wilkins lost consciousness on a bed in the basement, prosecutors say Lane used a knife to cut open Wilkins’ abdomen and remove her baby.
