Re: “A side of sanctimony with your Chipotle burrito?,” April 29 editorial.

As a degreed engineer and amateur paleontologist, I have a keen interest in science. You could say science is my religion. And as pointed out in your editorial, I’m fully aware the Food and Drug Administration and other governmental agencies, some of which are dually charged with promoting agriculture as well as protecting consumers, have declared GMOs to be safe for human consumption. That being said, there are substances I’d as soon not ingest. Among those are genes that are introduced into plant DNA to produce their own insecticides.

Under current law, those industries engaged in producing GMO foods have a right to spend their virtually unlimited dollars on lobbyists to influence Congress to continue fighting GMO labeling. Consumers also have rights, including advocating for GMO labeling, or in its absence, GMO-free labeling. Itap my right to know whatap in my food — and itap yours.
