Heavy rains due to thunderstorms caused the National Weather Service to issue a flood advisory Monday night.

The service said affected areas included Denver, western Aurora, Thornton, northeastern Westminster, Northglenn, Brighton and Barr Lake.

“Excessive run-off from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams … and ponding of water in urban areas, highways … streets and underpasses as well as in other poor drainage areas and low lying spots,” the advisory said.

The advisory was expected to last until 9 p.m.
