Authorities in Arapahoe County say a robbery suspect fleeing in a vehicle struck a sheriff’s deputy before he was shot by authorities early Tuesday in an encounter that unfolded in a strip mall parking lot.
The county sheriff’s office said deputies were called to the Arapahoe Village Shopping Center, 5050 Arapahoe Road, about 12:30 a.m. on a report that a liquor store had been robbed. Deputies attempted to contact a suspect vehicle in the parking lot, but the vehicle continued through the parking lot, making several turns and hitting a deputy who was on foot. A second deputy shot the suspect, wounding him, officials said.
The suspect was taken to a hospital, but officials did not provide details on his condition. The deputy who was driven into was also taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
